Vintage Value

Updated: May 3

They shall still increase in a fruitful old age: and shall be well treated.

—Psalm 92:14 DRB

It was created in 1960 — the cherished Zoo Key at the Philadelphia Zoo. Insert the Key into one of the "storyboxes" stationed in front of an exhibit or habitat and an audio recording provided fascinating facts about the creature in front of you.

In 2007, the Zoo retired these keys, but recently they have been brought back by popular demand. This vintage metal Key in the picture belongs to my husband, something he kept from his childhood. These vintage originals sell for as much as $80.

Have some years under your belt? Then you too can be a "storybox" — sharing fascinating ways in which God has shown Himself faithful. When given the opportunity, your message might be the key that God uses to unlock someone's heart.

Prayer

Lord, bring to my mind stories of times when you have proven Yourself faithful.

Quote

Speak to them of the great mercy of God. Sometimes people are helped by your telling of your own lamentable past." —St. Francis Xavier (1506-1552)*

Thought

Like the Zoo Key, the vintage edition of a person can be of great value.

Scripture

They shall still increase in a fruitful old age: and shall be well treated. (Psalm 92:14 DRB)

Question

What small story might I be carrying that tells of God's faithfulness and who in my life might need to hear it?

I really enjoyed today's post Vintage Value as I am reliving moments spent with grandchildren and searching for ways to understand this generation's focus on themselves, their wants and needs and boundary setting....and I am trying to understand the difference in generations over decades. The distinction between stating your likes/needs and boundary setting and possibly hurting a loved ones' feelings in that process of self. I will share this Scripture with grandchildren, ages 12-22, in hopes of leading to a Christ based discussion of how we all can relate in a healthy, Christ like way.......and still be so respectful of others. Thanks.....

Your loved ones are blessed to have a grandparent who is so thoughtful, engaged, and pointing them towards Christ. May the Lord bring good fruit from your efforts.

Probably my favorite Aspects post was "Used Olive Tree" because in my research for writing the post, I learned that even the leaves of the Olive Tree have value! As for today's question: What small story might I be carrying that tells of God's faithfulness and who in my life might need to hear it? In recent years, the story I have been sharing most often is how God was faithful during the year I cared for my mom after my dad passed away unexpectedly.
