Spinnaker Spirit

The wind blows wherever it pleases. – John 3:8 (RSV)

The wind was light on the bay – about five knots. Gaining momentum proved a challenge.
Ahead we saw a billowing red spinnaker sail with dashing white stripe and my husband explained that the spinnaker is used under light-wind conditions. The sail’s huge size allows it to balloon out, thus capturing as much wind as possible.
The spinnaker is a colorful sail, often red – the color of fire – like the flames that rested on the apostles' heads on Pentecost when the Holy Spirit came upon them (Acts 2:3).
Prayer
God of the wind and water, help me to open wide my heart and life to you like a spinnaker sail – able to receive the movement of Your Holy Spirit.
Quote
When you hook the sail of your life to the mighty wind of the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit is going to blow you out into the deep water far from the safety of shore. And then you’re going to hear this gentle but urgent voice say ‘Get out of the boat...' When we surrender to the Holy Spirit, our life becomes this Holy adventure.
//Bp. Donald Hying of Madison, Wisconsin

Thought
My spinnaker is raised; is yours? Holy Spirit, blow us away with Your power.
