And their eyes were opened and they recognized Him. – Luke 24:31 (RSV)

As a child, I remember this "Road to Emmaus" painting hanging on the wall above our living room sofa. Sometimes I would stand on the sofa and gaze up at it for a long, long time.

The two men we see walking with Jesus listened to Him with rapt attention during the seven mile walk to Emmaus. But it wasn't until later, when they urged him to stay for a meal and He broke the bread, that their eyes were spiritually opened!

Prayer

Lord, make yourself known to us in the breaking of the bread.

Quote

Do you really know the living Jesus – not from books but from spending time with Him in your heart? Have you heard the loving words He speaks to You? Ask for the grace, He is longing to give it.

// St. Mother Teresa (1910-1997) in a letter to her Missionaries of Charity

Thought

Christ is always there beside us, making Himself known to us.
