Beyond Me
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain it. —Psalm 139:6 RSV

How did the ancient Egyptians build pyramids and giant structures like these columns? Theories abound, but we don't know for sure. It remains a mystery.
If we can't explain how fellow humans did something remarkable, how can we begin to understand the infinite cosmos created by God?
God spoke of this when addressing Job: "Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding. Who determined its measurements—surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it? On what were its bases sunk, or who laid its cornerstone?"
It is easy to feel intellectually solid within the confines of our own lives. Yet when we take a moment to ponder human marvels like the pyramids or graduate our thoughts to cosmic wonders like the earth being formed, we are foolish to claim complete understanding no matter what our field of expertise.
Lord, Your ways are so far above anything we can comprehend. Keep us in a place of humility, awe, and wonder.
The understanding of God is higher than reason, and His greatness is beyond discovery. —St. John Chrysostom (347-407 AD)
