And with my God, I will climb over a wall.

—Psalm 18:29 CPDV

ree

By God's help, we have scaled a big wall, yet we may continue to face challenges— perhaps even a tangled, overgrown mess.

Growth goes wild in some areas and lies dormant in others. Weeding could be effective yet also infect us with poison ivy. Trying to forge a path upward may require singlehanded bushwacking through the overgrowth.

Meanwhile, birds sing beautiful songs. Fawns are born in the thicket, and bunnies busily nibble the dandelion leaves. But in the shadows predators lurk, wishing to cause harm — weasels, snakes, and foxes.

We remember those trees that already reached the top and have since died. Memories of them stand tall to encourage us. And we continue onward and upward — by God's help.

Prayer

God of growth bring perseverance, wisdom, and daily help within this manifold mess.

Quote

Judge not the Lord by feeble sense, But trust him for his grace;

Behind a frowning providence He hides a smiling face.

His purposes will ripen fast, Unfolding every hour;

The bud may have a bitter taste, but sweet will be the flower.

//William Cowper (1731-1800)

Thought

At Golgotha, those standing on the ground had to look upward to see Jesus on the cross. Forty days after His resurrection, those on the ground looked upward again as He ascended to heaven.

~ On October 1st and 2nd, I will be a guest on the At Home with Jim and Joy show on EWTN. We will be discussing God's providence in the call to be a caregiver and how humble honest prayer each day can lead to deeper understanding of God's will in our lives.
