Beasts Bless

All you beasts, wild and tame, bless the Lord; praise and exalt him above all forever. Daniel 3:81 NABRE

WILD...

TAME...

A new veterinary center just opened in my town, reminding me of our culture's intense focus on our pets. My family has a fur baby, too. He is a flame-point Siamese named Fritz who loves to be cuddled and even has the nickname "Boat Cat."

Not so cuddly is the cow moose who came near my friends' car when they were vacationing out west. And yet the mere sighting of this massive animal was exciting — a testimony to our creator God.

Beasts, both wild and tame, fascinate and draw our attention. We take pictures and talk about them whether they be endearing or awe-inspiring. Entire industries surround both land and sea creatures, and they can be sources of food provision for us as well.

Beasts — both wild and tame — bless and glorify the Lord by their very existence.

Prayer

God of creation,

Together with all beasts — both the tame companions who warm and steady our hearts, and the wild animals who cause awe and sometimes fear— we bless, praise, and adore Thee! Amen.

Quote

All creatures of our God and King, Lift up your voice and with us sing

Alleluia, alleluia.

—St. Francis of Assisi (author, 1225 A.D.), William H. Draper (paraphraser, 1901 A.D.)*

Thought

God's imagination is wider — and wilder — than our own!

You're post reminded me of one of my favorite poems-

All Things Bright and Beautiful

by Cecil Frances Alexander

All things bright and beautiful,All creatures great and small,All things wise and wonderful,The Lord God made them all.

Each little flower that opens,Each little bird that sings,He made their glowing colors,He made their tiny wings.

The rich man in his castle,The poor man at his gate,God made them high and lowly,And ordered their estate.

The purple headed mountain,The river running by,The sunset and the morning,That brightens up the sky;−

The cold wind in the winter,The pleasant summer sun,The ripe fruits in the garden,−He made them every one.

The tall trees in the greenwood,The meadows where we play,The rushes by the water,We…

Thank you, MDE!! Your post enriched my day. I enjoyed reading the words of the familiar hymn but didn't know as much about the poet and just read about her in Wikipedia. Other hymns of hers that are well-known include "There is a Green Hill Far Away" and "Once in Royal David's City." She was influenced by the Oxford Movement, something that has greatly influenced my faith life in more recent years.

Several years ago, I hung a "bird bottle" on my house in hopes that one of our many backyard birds might nest there. It remained empty until this year! I believe it is a house wren that has made the bottle its nesting place this spring! I've been blessed watching the baby bird in the bottle!
